M.S. Science & Math Education - Free-Choice Learning
PROGRAM INFORMATION
The online M.S. in Free-Choice Science or Mathematics Education aims to equip professional science and mathematics educators with abilities to facilitate and support learning across locations and ages, giving lifelong learners a chance to take an active role in science, mathematics and technology-focused educational experiences. The Curriculum focuses on theories and methods to optimize and stimulate free-choice learning—lifelong learning that is self-directed, voluntary, guided by learners’ needs and interests.
Free-Choice Learning is a special term for non-traditional or informal education that focuses on the nature of the learning, rather than where it occurs. Free-Choice Learning approaches science and mathematics education by appealing to an individual's or group’s interests, personal curiosities and motivation and is self-directed, voluntary and lifelong. Free-Choice Learning opportunities traditionally occur in science museums, zoos, national parks, public broadcasting organizations, on the Internet and within other science-related community organizations.
The goal of the online Free-Choice Learning master’s program is to create the next generation of free-choice learning leaders through a dynamic cohort of students passionate about non-traditional and out-of-school education options.
